From High-Achieving Lawyer to Institutional Leader
How many of us have spent our careers striving to be excellent lawyers, only to realize that winning at trial is a completely different skillset than winning in your career or organization? Why do women in the corporate world often receive a clear leadership roadmap, while women attorneys are left to navigate the "unspoken rules" on their own? In this session, we will move beyond defining leadership as billable hours, business development, or even winning lawsuits.
We will explore the leadership gap in the legal profession and how to make the fundamental shift from being a high-achieving lawyer and subject matter expert to managing and influencing others. Drawing on research and strategies from the broader corporate world, we will examine three critical pillars of leadership: managing your career (becoming the architect of your own advancement), managing your team (shifting from technical oversight to empowering and developing others), and managing up (building the consensus and relationships necessary for influence). Participants will learn practical, high-impact strategies and how to leverage their existing courtroom skills such as executive presence and empathy.
Whether you are aiming for partnership, a General Counsel role, or managing your own firm, you will leave this session having taken an actionable step toward claiming your seat at the table.
